Tuition

Matt Junior Basses 2cropped.jpg

I am hugely enthusiastic about music and I thrive on teaching people of all ages. Not limited to teaching double bass or bass guitar, I am well equipped to teach musicianship, improvisation, composition, music theory and rhythmic awareness to students of all instruments.

I am ideally set up for tuition at home, with a bespoke music room, good quality piano, audio equipment, printer, and loads of educational materials to hand.

I am presently Head of Jazz at the Brentwood School in Essex, where I teach improvisation to students of all instruments ages 11-18, and I direct the Junior and Senior jazz ensembles. I also teach double bass workshops as part of the 'London Basses' series at the Purcell school.

In my 1-2-1 tuition at home, I have numerous mature students who play for fun, and I have also helped two students successfully audition, (both were awarded scholarships), to study jazz at conservatoire postgraduate level.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements. If you live a long way away, don't worry, I'm also well accustomed to teaching via Zoom.

TESTIMONIALS

"I'm very glad to have had Matt recommended to me as a double bass teacher. I have been having lessons with Matt for over a year now - In my first few lessons Matt quickly identified issues with my technique and gave me exercises to resolve them, meaning I soon noticed an improvement in my tone and sound production. He has continued to help me develop my technical ability, whilst also broadening my understanding of jazz harmony and improvisation, as well as helping me to make my practice more productive. Recently Matt has helped me prepare for successful audition to study jazz double bass at music college."
